Operating Instructions

1. Opening the Knife

Grip the handle firmly and make sure no people or obstacles are in front of the blade. Push the flipper with your thumb until the blade is fully deployed. After hearing a clear mechanical locking sound, gently check that the blade is securely locked by the Axis Lock bar.

2. Closing the Knife

Keep your fingers away from the blade's closing path. Pull the Axis Lock bars on both sides of the handle rearward with your thumb and index finger to disengage the lock from the blade tang, then guide the blade slowly back into the handle until fully closed. This can be operated with either hand.

Do not rely solely on sound to confirm the lock. Before each use, visually inspect the lock and gently push on the blade spine to confirm it is securely engaged.

3. Proper Cutting

The Heron folding knife features a Böhler M390 blade. The wide blade belly is ideal for opening boxes, cutting rope, whittling, and general outdoor cutting. When cutting, guide the edge smoothly through the material. Avoid lateral twisting, prying, striking, or applying side force to the tip. Do not use the knife for chopping bone, cutting frozen hard objects, or as a substitute for a screwdriver, chisel, or pry bar.

4. Everyday Carry

Make sure the blade is fully closed before placing the knife in a pocket or pouch. The pocket clip uses recessed flat-head screws to reduce snagging and scratching during access. Before carrying, check that the clip, pivot, and butt screws are not loose.

Titanium handle versions feature a hidden butt screw, while G10 handle versions use exposed screws. Both designs do not affect basic operation.

Maintenance & Care

M390 Blade

  • Clean promptly after use to remove moisture, sweat, fruit juice, salt, and adhesive residue, then wipe dry with a soft dry cloth.

  • For long-term storage, apply a thin coat of knife-appropriate rust-preventive oil. If the knife may come into contact with food, use a food-safe maintenance oil.

  • The blade is available in a micro-blasted finish and a brushed/satin finish. Do not use steel wool, coarse abrasives, or highly corrosive cleaners, as they may damage the surface.

  • If the edge becomes dull, use sharpening equipment suitable for high-hardness powder steels. If you are not experienced with sharpening, we recommend professional service.

Axis Lock, Pivot & Moving Parts

  • Regularly remove lint, sand, and metal debris from the lock bars, pivot, and blade channel.

  • If opening and closing become rough, after cleaning and fully drying, apply a very small amount of dedicated knife lubricant to the pivot. Do not over-oil, as it attracts dust.

  • Do not disassemble or adjust the precision locking mechanism yourself. If the knife shows noticeable looseness, abnormal noise, or fails to lock reliably, stop using it and contact after-sales support.

Handle & Hardware

  • Wipe GR5 titanium and G10 handles with a soft, slightly damp cloth, then dry thoroughly. Gold PVD hardware includes the titanium flipper, 416 stainless steel pivot, and Axis Lock bars. Avoid hard impacts and abrasive cleaning to minimize coating wear.

  • The pivot screw is T8; all other screws are T6.

  • Do not put the entire knife in a dishwasher, soak it in water for extended periods, or store it wet.

Safety Warnings

  • The blade is extremely sharp. During opening, closing, cleaning, sharpening, and handling, keep your fingers and body away from the cutting edge and its path of travel.

  • Before use, always confirm the Axis Lock is fully engaged. If the lock bar has not reset, the blade feels loose, or anything seems abnormal, stop using the knife immediately.

  • This product is not a fixed-blade knife. Do not pry, chisel, chop, throw, or perform any operation beyond the intended use of a folding knife.

  • Do not quickly flick the blade open near others, and do not perform fidget tricks that may cause loss of control.

  • When carrying, transporting, or using the knife, comply with local laws, regulations, and rules for public places.

  • Keep the product out of reach of children.
